Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions or concerns regarding your Backyard Outfitters purchase? Please see the Frequently Asked Question and our answers below.
Please visit our online brochure request page. Once you enter your zip code and some limited contact information, a brochure with pricing for your area will be available to you.
We typically only discount buildings that have been sitting unsold for a while. The materials market has been extremely unpredictable and inconsistent from area to area. Until the cost of materials stabilizes, we will not be able to lower our prices or to run sales promotions. We watch the markets carefully and we will continue to adjust our pricing accordingly (up or down) in response to rising or falling costs.
Yes, we do offer military discounts. To receive a military discount, an active military ID that matches the purchaser’s name is required. Military discounts are also limited to the sale of new buildings (not used).
Unfortunately, we do not provide those services and, therefore, we cannot advise on it. We recommend reaching out to a local contractor in your area. Our barns and sheds are built as portable storage solutions and are not intended as living spaces. Many customers do convert them, but extra attention would need to be paid by a licensed contractor to modify the building to satisfy residential building codes. That said, the basic buildings we provide are a good starting point and offer a cost advantage compared to building a residential living space from scratch.
Unfortunately, we do not provide any interior finishing options, such as electrical, plumbing, insulation, drywall, etc. Customers will often make additions, customize or “finish out” their buildings in various ways once paid for and delivered, but we recommend that you hire an experienced contractor to do this work since improperly done finishing work can cause a safety or fire hazard or cause damage to your Backyard Outfitters building and therefore void aspects of the warranty.
No, we do not sell non-assembled buildings or shed kits. The advantage of purchasing from Backyard Outfitters is that your building will be professionally built and will arrive completely assembled (unless you require our Build-On-Site services, which are not available in all areas).
Yes, all of our doors come with installed locks.
Metal sheds or buildings ARE NOT available in all areas. Fabricating a metal building or shed requires a different skill set and different tools compared to building a shed made from wood. Not all of our shops nationwide are set up to fabricate metal sheds. Visit or contact your local dealer to see if metal sheds are available in your area.
You will need to notify your dealer before you purchase if the site is not accessible by truck and trailer and/or the site is more than 3 feet out of level. Our Build-on-site option is a great option when the shed location is inaccessible by truck and trailer, but requires an additional charge paid directly to the builder.
Typically, our buildings are set up on wood shims (included FREE) or concrete blocks that either the purchaser provides, or the delivery driver will provide at an additional charge. Some customers prefer their building to be set on gravel or concrete, which is a personal preference and is NOT required. Backyard Outfitters does not offer grading or foundation services. Those must be contracted independently by the customer and completed in advance of the shed delivery if needed.
In most areas, FREE delivery is only available within 30 miles of your local dealer. Any distance beyond FREE delivery radius will be subject to an additional charge per mile. The mileage charge is noted on the back page of the price guide.
We may not service the area you’re attempting to locate, but our friends at Old Hickory Buildings or Derksen Buildings may be able to assist you!
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have experienced an unusual and extremely high volume of sales as consumers are spending more time at home and investing in home improvement projects. This additional demand has resulted in lower-than-normal inventory levels at our dealer lots as well as delays in the delivery of shop-built structures. We are doing our best to adjust and provide the best possible customer experience under the circumstances, but the current delays we are seeing in manufacturing are unavoidable. We are also working on future ways to better communicate with our customers to keep you informed of changes in the delivery timeline and we apologize for any lack of communication you may have experienced regarding the delivery of your building.
For updates on the construction and/or delivery timeline for your Backyard Outfitters order, please contact the delivery driver who has been assigned to you. Their contact information can be found on the Thank You page of the sales or rent-to-own contract you signed and was provided at the time of sale.
If you believe you are experiencing an issue with your building that is covered by our warranty, you can file a claim here. Our warranty department will review it and get back to you as soon as possible. We appreciate your feedback. It’s what helps us continue to improve.
If you need additional or replacement keys, please call our main office at (615) 807-1386 and ask to speak with Customer Service. We can pull the original information for your shed and order replacement keys for $10 + tax with a card over the phone. Please note that delivery times for replacement/additional keys are beyond our control as we rely on the door handle supplier. A quicker option would be to order a replacement doorknob with new keys from www.shed-supply.com or by visiting your local home improvement store.
If you wish to cancel an order, please contact the dealer you purchased from as soon as possible. Potential cancellation fees may apply. We are sorry to hear that you want to cancel your order. We hope you will reconsider in the future.
